Barcode label generation and printing

To print using LabCollector follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Home page in LabCollector and select the “Module” you want to print from.
    For e.g. Strains & cells.
  2. There are 2 options:
  • First to “Generate a barcode” (A)
  • Second to print by using “Print barcode label option” (B)

(A) GENERATING AND PRINTING A BARCODE   

When you click on ‘ Generate a barcode” from the above image, a new page with the below image will appear.

You can use A.1 and A.2 for the Generic printing method and A.3 & A.4 for the Direct printing method.

A.1) 1D barcode generation & printing

 

  1. Select if you want to” Add a name to the label
  2. You can adjust the size of barcode by typing the required size in option “Barcode height
  3. Add free text” for the file to be printed
  4. To print “Without Barcode” tick this option
  5. For printing, select “Open in new window

The barcode with the required settings will be generated. For example, see the image below where 1D barcode for the name “SaOS-2” and a text “Cancer Cell” with barcode height “15” is generated.

You can print the barcode by either pressing “Ctrl+P” or giving the print option by right clicking the mouse.

NOTE: Take care to select the correct barcode size and the correct printer before printing.

A.2) 2D barcode generation & printing

 

  1. Select the size of 2D barcode you require
  2. Select if you want to ”Add name to the label
  3. Add free text” for the file to be printed
  4. For printing, select “Open in new window”.

For example, see the image below where 2D barcode for a name “SaOS-2”, the sample ID “7160/ST” and a text “Cancer Cell” is generated with needed size if barcode.

 

A.3) Direct label printing 

 

  1. Select if you want to” Add name to the label”.
  2. You can “Add free text” to the label
  3. Choose if you want to print with or without a barcode.
  4. You can “Add sub-number” or “Number of copies”.
  5. Choose the correct size of label from the drop down. (Please follow the link to set up the size of the label)
  6. Choose correct printer from the dropdown.
  7. Click on “Validate options” for printing with Zebra or Brady EPL printing. (Click the link to know about how to calibrate Zebra GX420t, GX430t, Brady BBP11 & BBP12 printers)

After clicking on validate options, the print option will appear. For printing, click on the “Print” option.

                               
                                                 

A.4) DYMO label printing

 

  1. Select if you want to” Add a name to the label”.
  2. You can “Add free text” to the label
  3. Choose the correct size of label from the drop-down of “label model”. (Follow the link to know about how to customize DYMO label tags)
  4. Check if the DYMO printer is connected. Printer name will be displayed if it is connected. (Follow the link to know about how to configure DYMO printer)
  5. You can “Add sub-number” or “Number of copies” you need.
  6. Click on “Print barcode” for printing with DYMO label printer.

  
                                                             


B) PRINT BARCODE OPTION

When you click on “Print barcode label option “, the below option will appear:

B.1) EPL Printing

Select “EPL”,  new page will open like in the below image.

  1. Type the text you want in “Add free text” and select the field you need.
  2. Select the type of barcode you require (No, 1D or 2D).
  3. Select if you require to add sub-number or copies.
  4. Select the correct label type.
  5. Select the type of printer from the dropdown list.
  6. Click on “submit” to print.

B.2) DYMO Printing


Select “DYMO”, a new page will open with the following image.


  1. Type the text you want in “Add free text” and the correct field that you need from the dropdown list.
  2. You can select the required field like in above figure B1.
  3. Select the correct label model from the dropdown list.
  4. Check if the DYMO printer is connected. Printer name will be displayed if it is connected.
  5. Select the “Number of copies” you need or if you want to add a sub-number.
  6. Click on “Submit” to print.
